Registration, Checking In, Demo Day
Registration and check in at Sea Kayak Georgia on Thursday, October 18 from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm.If you are not arriving until early Wednesday we
will be in the shop by 8:30 am. Check in involves completing waivers and
checking to see that your name is listed on the roster for each day of
classes. Bring you registration form printed out already as a record of your week. Your launch site will be listed on the class roster, make a note of it, this is where the class will meet that morning. We will give you a print out with the tides, presentations and times, and dinner meetup locations and times.
Thursday, October 18, 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm will be our annual demo day. SKUK, Valley Sea Kayaks, Greenland SOF Kayaks, and Surf Tech Stand Up Boards will be available. We will have a Greenland Rolling Demo and a student coach stand up board race.
Parking on Tybee Island
Parking passes are issued
through Sea Kayak Georgia by the City of Tybee Island. You may purchase
passes at the time of registration/ check in. All parking on Tybee is pay to park. If
you buy a pass and park anywhere other than designated parking you will
receive a ticket, which you are responsible for paying.
Parking is limited, so plan to arrive early to the launch site so that you will have time to unload gear and park without being late for class. Please honor all access issues with diplomacy, if you can't find parking you will have to go to a lot further away and walk back to the landing. Do not block access to launch site for the trailers or other vehicles unloading. At the Inlet Avenue launch site the Sea Kayak Georgia trailer has to drive down a very narrow lane. Please do not block our access to and from this landing. The van is making multiple pickups so time is of the essence in the afternoon.
Class Times
All Classes are conducted
from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Multi day classes may extend later than 4:00
pm if agreed upon by coach and students.
Class Changes
You may find you wish to
change a class due to progressing faster or slower than you expected.
We are very happy to make schedule changes. Here's how it works: come to
Sea Kayak Georgia in person (phone calls for schedule changes cannot be accepted) and a staff member will assist
you in moving your name to the class of your choice if there is availability.
Classes can be changed between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm the day before only.
What to Bring to Class
Appropriate clothing will
make your day much more enjoyable. October can have varying
conditions daily. Keep a close watch on the weather the week before you
arrive. Prepare for both moderately warm and quite cool.
You need to bring enough water to last for the duration of the class.
Pack your lunch and bring it with you. Don't forget your sunscreen. If the weather is cooler a thermos with hot beverage will be a nice addition to your kit.
Oyster Roast & Dinner Meetups
Our annual Oyster Roast will be held on Saturday evening, the cost is $20 and reservations are required no later than October 15. The Oyster Roast is Sea Kayak Georgia style, we shuck steamed oyster until they run out. Don't expect anything fancy or other that oysters. This is an amazing way to really feel the local culture. If you don't know how, we'll show you.
Students may make reservations for guests who wish to join them. All Oyster Roast reservations must be received by October 15 so that we can reserve the amount of oysters to be harvested.
We will meet at local restaurants to sample local island cuisine. Students will be responsible for their own food and drink.
North Beach Bar and Grill and Tybee Island Social Club are likely meet up spots in 2012, stay posted for details.
Presentations
Friday, Sunday and Monday evenings we will have one or several guest speakers to share their
kayaking adventures from around the world. These presentations are included
with registration. Presentatins start at 7:30ish generally unless we meet up for dinner after and then it will start around 6:30. Times will be listed on registration paperwork.
