Exploration Series: Ocean and Estuary
Have you been to the Symposium a number of times and
not really been out of the Back River or beyond the Triangle? The Exploration Series Estuary is offered for those who have had enough intense training for the week and want to get on the water and practice, but also chill out.
Join our noted expedition paddlers and local naturalists and explore the area taking some of
the lesser travelled cuts and backwater passages. We'll go down to the
south end of Little Tybee for lunch and then paddle back through the ocean
or estuary to one of the back river landings. The Ocean Series may decide to come and go frontside, while the Estuary series will stay in protected water combining skills refinement, natural history and the tybee way of slowing down.
On the Ocean Series you can plan on putting in some miles on the way out, practice some navigation skills
and on the way back catch some surf and do some rough water practice.
For the Estuary series the tides will be very high and at high tide we won't even have to stay
in the channel we can paddle over the grass and take short cuts to go
fast and far. This is an opportunity to do some paddling that we don't
get to do in this area except when we have huge spring tides at perigee.
Prerequisite Ocean series: intermediate paddlers with a reliable roll
Prerequisite Estuary series: 2 star and above
