Paddle Tybee Island
Local Knowledge Solutions

Tybee Island has long been known as a vacation destination and in most recent history has become known for its fun rough water patch locally called the "Triangle". Tybee is also the gateway to pristine wilderness paddling along the Georgia coast. Sea Kayaking has become one of Tybee Island's most fun activities for individuals, couples, families and groups.

What is it about Tybee Island that calls us and keeps us here? Year round, Sea Kayak Georgia and Tybee Island offer something for every paddler. Let's start with November and December having plenty of days ranging from 60 to 80 degrees with water temps staying in the 60s. January and February bring 30 to 60 degree days with water temps in recent years only dropping to the mid 50s. During this time our friends from the Northeast and Midwest come for extended visits to enjoy paddling in mild winter conditions. March, April and May bring spring fever and family spring breaks. Flowers bloom, birds nest and we celebrate temps 50s to 80s with water temps in the 60s and 70s. June is sometimes as much summer as is needed for northern climate paddlers. July and August the true hot days of south Georgia sizzle, blister and offer some of our most favorite days. Paddling in bathing suits, surfing in warm water, picnics on deserted beaches with the sweetest of ocean breezes, beach camping and star gazing are favorite pastimes, and again all you need is your bathing suit.

September and October offer relief from the hottest temps but still have warm days, warm water and exceptional kayaking conditions, excellent camping and of course, the Sea Kayak Georgia Skills Symposium and BCU Week. And then back we go to offer camping and training in November and December.

Tybee Island is 3 miles long and 1/2 mile wide, the island has gorgeous white sand beaches, a friendly welcoming community ready to receive all manner of travellers, excellent seafood restaurants, historic sites, some of the best and most varied as well as easily accessible kayaking in the world. The Triangle which is a series of sand bars, or ebb tide delta, located off the southern tip of Tybee Island is a place with many faces during the tidal cycle. Of course, the best feature of all is Tybee's close proximity to Little Tybee Island, a pristine deserted barrier island. Little Tybee offers a true coastal wilderness experience with miles of winding creeks, hammocks and beaches.

The simple joys in life can come to pass here: get rid of your cell phone and laptop for a few days knowing we have phone service and plenty of wireless, but you can't help sinking into Tybee Time for that moment of unplugged bliss. Replace the electronic world with the sound of waves crashing onto the beach, palm trees rustling in the wind, Snowy and American Egrets feeding side by side.
